Noach - Planting a Righteous World

What is the significance of Noach as the tzadik who lived through three different ages of spiritual challenge? What is the idea behind Noach being 'uprooted' and then 'planted' in the Teiva-Ark that he built? Why were his sons all born after he was 500 years old, and less than 100 years before the flood?
